Taken For Granted

Intertextuallity is the interrelationship between text and a piece of art. The Text as an Element project was difficult because we had to somehow incorporate text in our piece of art. My project was done with watercolor and Sharpie; the piece is called Taken For Granted. The trash on my piece represents the objects or materials that the world is oblivious to their importance. Each piece of trash says a different word such as: food, clothing, and education. The trash represents things that have and love, but we are oblivious to the fact that millions of people lack more than one these words, and the sacrifices that would have to be made without them. The trash is spilling out of a trashcan that has a map of the world on it, symbolizing the things that the world easily accepts as a normal part of everyone's life style. Making the trashcan black and white is symbolic of the worlds incapability of being aware of what they've been blessed with. Overall my biggest struggle was finding how to write the words on the trash; however, my solution was bowing in the words making them stand out more.
